Historic Highland Fireworks event gears up
Published 4th November 2025.
The last remaining community fireworks event in Strathspey (Highlands) is in countdown mode, with staff at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore getting ready to welcome locals and visitors.
Pyrotechnics experts Moray Firth Fireworks will be lighting the skies on 5th November for a traditional family display which has been attracting crowds since former owner, the late Peter Steinle, introduced it.
Bonfire night events were previously popular across the region, with displays in towns and villages such as Grantown, Kincraig and Boat of Garten, with the latter, sadly, not returning following Covid restrictions.
However, the Cairngorm Hotel has pledged a seasonal cracker for everyone in the area and beyond with the showcase starting from its traditional vantage point outside the hotel at 6pm.
Tradition
The event has been running for close to two decades and staff believe it has become a keystone in the local events calendar.
“It is incredibly popular and even more important to families now that some of the other traditional fireworks displays in the area have fallen away,” said Cairngorm Hotel General Manager, Craig Docherty.
“The professional fireworks team are hugely experienced and put on a brilliant show and the hotel has always been a great backdrop. We are really looking forward to it.
“If parents have a meal in our restaurant, we will be giving U-12s free hot chocolate and popcorn. It is a family and community celebration, and we are hoping for the type of weather where everyone can get the best view possible of the lights and amazing colours.”
The event is free, with no tickets required.
